Known as the Peak of Vancouver, Grouse Mountain is a short trip from downtown and one of the best ways to spend a free afternoon or evening during the conference.
The Skyride aerial tram climbs about 1,100 metres in a few minutes. On a clear day you can see across the city, Stanley Park, the Lions Gate Bridge and out to Vancouver Island.
September is still summer season on the mountain, with walking trails, the grizzly bear habitat, the Lumberjack Show and ziplining. Stay for sunset and dinner at the summit, then ride down to the city lights.
Feeling energetic? The Grouse Grind is a steep 2.9 km trail up the face of the mountain, often called Mother Nature’s StairMaster. Most hikers take one to two hours, then ride the Skyride down.
Getting there: Grouse Mountain is about 30 minutes from the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre by car or taxi. By transit, take the SeaBus to Lonsdale Quay, then bus 236 to the base. Check grousemountain.com for hours, tickets and any shuttle service before you go.
